About me

My name is Emanuel Sporn and I am a surgeon in Vienna.

I look back on many years as a surgeon and senior consultant at the renowned Department of Surgery of the Medical University of Vienna. In 2009 I completed my habilitation (appointment as Privatdozent) and in 2012 I was appointed Associate Professor. Since 2017 I have been able to dedicate myself exclusively to my private patients. In the pleasant, trusting atmosphere of my private practices in Vienna, I address your concerns individually and look after you personally – from the first consultation to the final check-up. I operate on my private patients in Vienna's best-equipped and most renowned private hospitals.

As a specialist in surgery, visceral surgery and vascular surgery, my focus is on minimally invasive abdominal surgery and breast surgery: abdominal wall hernias (inguinal, umbilical and incisional hernia), reflux and hiatal hernia, colon and rectal surgery and gallbladder surgery. Another focus close to my heart is gastroscopy and colonoscopy, as well as the surgical treatment of benign and malignant breast tumours.

Modern surgical techniques

I use modern surgical techniques to achieve the best possible result for you – from minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery to the use of the da Vinci surgical robot where it offers a benefit.

Tailored therapy

I received a broad surgical training in Vienna and in the USA and master a wide range of surgical techniques. Choosing the right method for each patient allows good results with little pain and lasting success.

Personal care

I take time for you and explain diagnosis and treatment in a clear and understandable way. After surgery, I personally look after my patients and remain available for questions about recovery and aftercare.

Prompt surgery dates

I offer surgery dates within days or a few weeks if desired. You are welcome to ask about possible dates by phone in advance.

Decades of experience

More than 25 years of surgical experience and a large number of successful operations. I have developed new surgical techniques and trained young surgeons.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Useful information if you are considering treatment with me:

Do I need any tests before booking an appointment?

If you already have relevant test results, please bring them along. After a detailed consultation and, if necessary, a physical examination, I can often make a provisional diagnosis. If further tests are needed, I can rely on an excellent network of specialists.

How do I book an appointment?

You can choose an appointment online. Please also send the reason for your visit by email (info@chirurg-sporn.at).

You can also book by phone: +43 1 40180 7010 – our team speaks English.

Do you accept Cigna?

Yes. Direct billing with Cigna is possible. Depending on your plan, a pre-authorisation may be required before surgery – we will help you with this. More for international patients

How long is the waiting time for surgery?

I try to offer surgery dates within days or a few weeks if desired. I am also happy to tell you the next possible surgery date personally by phone (+43 680 330 11 45).

Which hospitals do you work in?

I operate exclusively in private hospitals – mainly the Wiener Privatklinik, Privatklinik Confraternität – Goldenes Kreuz, the Evangelisches Krankenhaus and the Rudolfinerhaus.

How is surgery billed?

For patients with private insurance cover for inpatient treatment, billing is done directly with the insurer. Otherwise the operation is paid by the patient. With other international insurance plans you receive a detailed invoice for reimbursement.

How are consultations billed?

I am a private doctor (Wahlarzt). You pay the fee yourself and receive an invoice that you can submit to your insurer.
